Before Any Name

Multicolored glowing mist with soft blue, purple, and orange hues over dark reflective water.

Before we are someone, we are.

Before the name, the story, the profession, the age, the guilt and the merit, there is a silent presence that simply is. It does not need to be constructed. It does not need to be improved. It does not need to be approved by the world.

Suffering begins when we forget this.

We start believing that we are only the character: the one who succeeded, failed, lost, desired, feared, aged, and struggled. Then we try to heal the character with more character: more explanations, more justifications, more identity.

But Being does not need to be healed.

What needs to be seen is only the mistake of taking the mask to be the true face.

Nisargadatta pointed to the simple “I Am” before any definition. A Course in Miracles points to the remembrance that nothing real can be threatened. Both, each in its own language, invite us to abandon spiritual amnesia.

You do not need to become the Absolute.
You do not need to conquer God.
You do not need to manufacture peace.

Peace is not an achievement of the ego.
It is what remains when the war against oneself ceases.

For a few moments, before answering the world, before defending your story, before explaining who you are, simply remain.

Not as man or woman.
Not as winner or failure.
Not as body, memory, or biography.

Only as presence.

And perhaps, in this nameless silence, you may recognize something very ancient:
you were never separate from what you were seeking.

Gassho.
